TRIPS FOR KIDS KANSAS CITY

Description:
Collaboration between KCKHA and Trips For Kids Kansas City. Trips For Kids Kansas City provides mountain bike trips for kids ages 10-17. The trips are usually on a Saturday and last approximately 5 hours. Ten to twelve kids attend each session. During the trip, kids are exposed to an environment that they have probably never experienced. They are taken away from the city and are treated to a day full of outdoor adventure. All equipment is provided including the bike, helmet, gloves and water bottle. Lunch and beverages are also included.

April, 2000

Program Size:
Ten to twelve youth participate every other Saturday during the months of April through October.

Eligible Participants:
Trips For Kids targets low-income youth in the Kansas City metropolitan area.

Type of Assistance:
Trips For Kids mountain biking program offers inner-city children outdoor adventure and a chance to experience local wilderness areas that are normally out of their reach. Incorporated into each ride are lessons in environmental awareness, safety and cooperation. The goal is to provide these kids an opportunity to experience themselves and their surroundings in a positive new ways and to develop healthy interests and habits through outdoor activities. All equipment used for mountain bike riding is new and the latest technology has to offer. Transportation is provided for children residing in public housing. Trips For Kids promises to be a day filled with fun and adventure.

Contributors to the Program:
Trips For Kids is funded through a grant by the Department of Education.

PHA Funding:
KCKHA pays a portion towards the fees for each session.
