RETURN TO SCHOOL  (Developmental)

Description:
A collaboration between KCKHA and Kansas City Kansas Community College (KCKCC) Business and Industry Training and Assistance Center (BITAC). The program works directly with residents of public housing to help them identify their skills and job areas in which they could most effectively be used.

Anticipated Start Date:
Fall, 2000

Program Size:
20 residents per class

Eligible Applicants:
Individuals eighteen and older residing in public housing.

Type of Assistance:
The Business and Industry Training and Assistance Center at KCKCC provides a wide array of services. Some of the services include testing to determine an individuals area of skill and interest. After the testing, jobs that require those skills are considered. If a person has interest in a job, but lacks the skills, BITAC will assist that person in obtaining the proper skills for the job. BITAC also works closely with employers and are aware of the required skills for a multitude of jobs.

Contributors to the Program:
KCKCC works closely with the public housing resident and assists them in applying for various grants and scholarships to defray the costs.

PHA Funding:
KCKHA promotes this program within the public housing forum. KCKHA has committed to providing transportation to residents provided that enough residents are attending the program from the same or nearby development. No direct funding is provided by KCKHA.
