Description:
Parents as Teachers provides year round services to families with children ages birth to three in Wyandotte County at no cost. The focus of the Parents as Teachers is to educate parents on the developmental stages of children and what behaviors and milestones to expect at each stage. Parents are able to express concerns and share ideas.

Program Size:
Parents as Teachers serves hundreds of families each year.

Eligible Applicants:
Any children ages birth to three and their families residing in Wyandotte County, regardless of income level.

Type of Assistance:
Parents as Teachers provide information regarding your child's developmental needs based on their age. They also provide in-home services by a certified parent educator. Parents can receive developmental screenings for their child (ren) and can attend parent group meetings. Play groups and family activities are scheduled throughout the year.

Contributors to the Program:
Parents as Teachers is provided by USD 500, Early Childhood Services.

PHA Funding:
KCKHA supports Parents as Teachers by promoting the program throughout the public housing developments. No direct public housing funds are used for the Parents as Teachers program.
