Description:
New Century Connections (NCC) is a partnership between the Kansas City, Kansas Public Schools and the Kansas City, Kansas Area Chamber of Commerce. The program provides academic support, work-based learning support and student and family support.

Eligible Applicants:
New Century Connections provides services to children in grades kindergarten through 12th attending one of the following schools: Wyandotte High School, Central Middle, Northwest Middle, Banneker Elementary, Chelsea Elementary, Douglas Elementary, Hawthorne Elementary, M.E. Pearson Elementary, Mark Twain Elementary, Whittier Elementary and Kansas City Kansas Community College Adult Basic Education/GED Centers.

Type of Assistance:
New Century Connections provides numerous activities, which provides the necessary information for a child to understand the skills required for specific careers. Some of the activities include: Business Tours (K-Grade 12), Reality 101 Classroom Speaker
(K-Grade 12), Job Shadowing (Grades 9-12) and Internships (Grade 12).

Contributors to the Program:
The program is funded by a School-to-Work Urban/Rural Opportunities Grant from the U.S. Department of Labor.

PHA Funding:
No public housing funds are used for this program. A large population of public housing children attend the target schools and KCKHA promotes the program.
