Description:
Collaboration between KCKHA and USD 500. Before and after school academic and social
enrichment for elementary school aged children. Services include tutorial services from
certified teachers, Campfire Boys and Girls, Storytellers, Inc and 4-H. Residents of
public housing are offered these services at no additional costs. KCKHA pays for the costs
of these programs through funds from the Drug Elimination Grant.

Program Size:
Approximately 100 families are served by this program.
Eligible Participants:
Youth that are elementary school age. Any child in USD 500 may participate in the program,
but KCKHA resident's fees are paid by KCKHA.
Type of Assistance:
KIDZONE provides academic and social enrichment to elementary school aged children. These
children are able to be supervised before and after school and receive quality
programming. The teachers are aware of the curriculum and can assist children with their
studies. At times, the children take field trips to local exhibits, etc. All children
receive a breakfast and/or a healthy snack. The program runs for one hour before school
and for two hours after school.
Contributors to the Program:
USD 500 provides the facilities for the programs as well as transportation.
PHA Funding:
KCKHA commits part of their funding from the Public Housing Drug Elimination Grant money
for this program.
KIDZONE (summer):
As outlined above with the exception that the program runs from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Monday- Friday. The children are exposed to the same programs plus additional field trips
and guest speakers. They are served snacks and lunch.
