Description:
KCKHA in collaboration with Keys for Networking Inc. provides a variety of services to residents of public housing on community resources and parent rights. Training for parents and youth deal with issues in the community and issues with school.

Program Start Date:
September, 1999

Program Size:
Approximately forty families per training event. There are numerous events throughout the year.

Eligible Participants:
Families with children of all ages. Activities generally focus on a specific age group. Residents with children of that age are eligible to attend the training. If you have one child in that age group, then the entire family is eligible to attend the training. Young children are cared for by attendants and enjoy fun filled day of activities. The training is generally held at a local hotel with an indoor pool. Typically, a coach bus picks up the family on a Friday evening; meals and rooms are provided, as well as the training. The families are brought back to their residence on Saturday afternoon. After completing the training, families may choose to become trainer families for other events. The families, including the youth, receive payment for their participation.

Additional Participants:
Residents that do not have children residing with them, but that are interested in the youth of today, or work with youth in their employment, are able to become paid attendants. These persons must show leadership qualities and be cleared through the child abuse and neglect registry.

PHA Funding:
All funding for this program is provided by Keys for Networking. The KCKHA provides in kind services as part of the collaboration.
