J.C.NICHOLS RESIDENTIAL REAL ESTATE HOMELESS PREVENTION PROGRAM

Description:
The program provides grants and loans to residents of public housing. It targets employed individuals that have incurred an unexpected financial crisis.

Program Start Date:
September, 1999

Program Size:
Approximately 60 families are assisted per year.

Eligible Applicants:
Residents must be residing in public housing properties of the Kansas City, Kansas Housing Authority and not eligible for a repayment agreement through the Housing Authority or assistance from agencies in the community. Reasons for the crisis must be fully disclosed and documentation may be requested. Priority is given to employed residents with children.

Type of Assistance:
Residents are eligible to receive a one-time grant up to $250.00. Loans equal to one months rent are available for residents that show the ability to repay. Residents are eligible for an additional loan once the previous loan is repaid.

Contributors to the Program:
J.C. Nichols Residential Real Estate Outreach Committee commits $1,000 per month to the program. In addition, local lending agencies in the community provide funds on a yearly basis. The KCKHA contributes a minimum of $1,000 per year from funds raised through various activities.
