Description:
IAM CARES has numerous programs but this program, located at 1979 North 2nd Street in the
Juniper Gardens Housing Development, primarily focuses on long-term welfare recipients
(have been receiving assistance for 30 months or is within 12 months of losing benefits),
individuals that do not have a high school diploma or GED, poor work history and may
require substance abuse treatment.

The program serves on an average 60 persons per year.
Eligible Applicants:
Individuals that meet certain criteria are eligible for the program. A complete list of
eligibility verification is available from the contact person(s). A partial listing of
criteria includes, but not limited to, long-term welfare recipient, no high school diploma
or GED, pregnant or parenting teen, poor work history, learning disabled, resident of
public housing, domestic violence victim.
Type of Assistance:
IAM CARES provides job preparation skills, resume writing, job development and case
management for one year. The program also helps to break down the barriers to long term
employment such as daycare and transportation.
Contributors to the Program:
IAM CARES receives funding through the Department of Labor.
PHA Funding:
KCKHA provides a three-bedroom unit at Juniper Gardens Family Development for the
operation of IAM CARES. In addition, KCKHA provides referrals of public housing residents.
