Description:
Headstart provides early childhood education for economically disadvantaged youth. The
program provides a forum for children to be exposed to the necessary skills so they can be
prepared to enter Kindergarten on track. The program serves healthy snacks and meals to
the children. In addition, Headstart promotes parental involvement, social services,
education, nutrition, training and health issues. There is no cost to the family for the
program.
Program Size:
Headstart serves hundreds of families yearly.
Eligible Applicants:
Families interested in the Headstart Program must supply their child's birth certificate,
income verification and social security number of the child and parent to the local
Headstart Office in order to determine eligibility.
Contributors to the Program:
Headstart is a federally funded program. All direct costs associated with the program are
covered by the government.
PHA Funding:
KCKHA provides the use of three (3) community centers at three family developments at
minimal cost to Headstart. The programs are located at St. Margaret's, Belrose Manor and
Douglas Heights.
