Description:
The Christmas Store is open to residents of public housing and Section 8. The store is
open for 1-2 days during the month of December. The store receives hundreds and hundreds
of donated new items from local merchants. The items are sold for 25% of wholesale value
or less, allowing residents to purchase quality items at terrific prices.
Program Start Date:
December, 1998
Program Size:
Approximately 750 residents attend the Christmas Store each year.
Eligible Participants:
Residents of public housing and Section 8.
Type of Assistance:
The Christmas Store allows the opportunity for residents to purchase new items at
drastically reduced prices. This allows residents a one-stop shop for all of their
Christmas purchases. Donated items range from seasonal to household items and everything
in-between.
Contributors to the Program:
Local merchants donate new items, many one of a kind samples. KCKHA provides a community
center for the sale.
PHA Funding:
No public housing funds are used. Proceeds from all sales are used to fund various
resident initiatives.
