Description:
Christmas in the City is a collaboration between Grace Center, Storytellers, Inc., the Unified Government and KCKHA. It is a holiday event that provides dinner, desert, beverages, toys, pictures with Santa and Mrs. Claus, entertainment and much more. The evening is fun-filled for the families that attend.

Program Start Date:
December, 1999

Program Size:
800 public housing children and their parents in addition to 100 volunteers.

Eligible Participants:
Residents of public housing with children ages twelve and under.

Type of Assistance:
Christmas in the City provides families with an evening of being pampered. All families are served dinner at their table by a host/hostess. The children visit with Santa and visit Toyland, escorted by an "elf." The children are allowed to pick out a toy. There are hundreds of toys to choose from. This evening allows residents to socialize with residents from other developments and prompts good will.

Contributors to the Program:
All funds for the Christmas in the City are solicited from area businesses.

PHA Funding:
No public housing funds are used for Christmas in the City.
