CHRISTMAS ADOPTION PROGRAM

Contact:
Marc Marcano, Administrative Coordinator or Shawnette Mansfield, Social Services Coordinator, (913) 281-3300.

Description:
KCKHA and numerous private businesses adopt families that would otherwise have no Christmas. Some of the funds raised from the Garage Sale, The Christmas Store, and other activities go towards the KCKHA Christmas adoptions.

Program Start Date:
December, 1998

Program Size:
Approximately 30 families are adopted each year by local businesses and individuals.

Eligible Participants:
Families residing in public housing.

Type of Assistance:
Families that are adopted receive a variety of items. Every adoption is different, depending on the business that adopts them and the needs of the family. Items usually include food, toys, clothing, gift certificates, and other specific items needed by the family.

Contributors to the Program:
Numerous local businesses and private individuals request families to adopt during the Holiday Season. Prior to giving out names the family must give permission. The KCKHA also adopts families that would not otherwise have a Christmas.

PHA Funding:
All funding for this program comes from outside sources or KCKHA fundraisers.
