Description:
KCKHA collaborates with the KCKPD-Black Officers and other social service agencies in
order to provide children of public housing with back to school supplies.
Program Start Date:
August, 1998
Program Size:
Approximately 400-500 youth are served through this program each year.
Eligible Applicants:
Low-income youth are eligible to participate. Parents must provide the required
documentation.
Type of Assistance:
Children receive many of the basic back to school items such as notebooks, pencils, pens,
paper, erasers, crayons, markers, book bags, etc.
Contributors to the Program:
In addition to the KCK Black Officers, numerous social service agencies provide school
supplies for the youth. Some of the agencies include Crosslines, Catholic Charities,
Metropolitan Lutheran Ministries and Southern Baptist Ministries.
PHA Funding:
KCKHA distributes donated school supplies to public housing youth. Additionally, the
housing authority refers families to agencies in the community that are distributing
school supplies.
